History
The War Memorial in the Republic of South Africa was first built in 1924 as a facility to commemorate those killed in the Korean War, World War I and World War II. The Korean War memorial was added after it was relocated in 1959. A sculpture, “Winged Victory,” is located at the top of the monument, and at the center of the monument is a copperplate sculpture showing soldiers in battle from World War 1.
